Syntax 1

Course description

The course sets out to introduce students to the basic concepts, terms and structures of SYNTAX in terms of a traditional descriptive approach, with some modern linguistic concepts, terms and analyses added when necessary.  The bulk of the lecture material will cover questions of the Simple Sentence, but Compound and Complex Sentences will also be given the attention they require.  In addition to the formal issues inherent in syntax, the relevant semantic and functional questions will also be tackled.
